The tech talent shortage has seen companies struggle to hire professional tech talent, with hiring managers taking more than three months to fill a tech role in their companies.
Antonio Mazza, tech manager at Robert Walters Indonesia, recently shared with Kompas that the level of difficulty in hiring a tech professional today averaged a score of 7 on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the hardest. This is according to a Robert Walters survey conducted with nearly 400 technology professionals and hiring managers across South East Asia in April 2019. The survey findings were compiled in a tech e-guide , which also featured learnings from seven leading companies across the region including HelloGold, MoneyMax.ph, OVO, SGX, Tencent Thailand, Tokopedia and Trusted Services.
Eric Mary, Country Manager of Robert Walters Indonesia, said that to attract and retain tech talent, companies, both traditional and start-ups alike, must have a long-term training and development program. It is also crucial for education system to catch up with the fast pace of development of technology we see in the country.
A study by Statistics Indonesia done in February 2019 found that the population of the working force in Indonesia is 129.36 million, but only 12.57% hold a diploma or degree and 0.73% work in the information and technology sector.
