When Cindy Elza drew near to the end of her six-month contract at a large Indonesian retail group, she began planning for what’s next. Given her a decade of experience in communications, there seemed little to worry about when it came to landing a new job. Yet worry she did.
Although she spent over six years at the same company early in her career, Cindy had changed jobs several times over the course of the pandemic. She worried that her resume might create the impression that she was flighty or incapable of adapting to new environments.
So, it came as a relief that there was someone who did not see her that way. Instead, it was with curiosity that Indri Novita reached out to Cindy after viewing her profile on LinkedIn.
As part of the Robert Walters Indonesia team specialising in sales and marketing roles for B2B companies, Indri recognised Cindy’s potential. She probed deeper into Cindy’s aspirations and the reasons behind each of her job switches. “There was not a single strain of negativity or judgement during our discussion,” Cindy relates.
“I felt seen as a person, not reduced to the bullet points on my resume.”
As it turned out, all Cindy had been searching for was a little heart. “Money and job title aside, it keeps me motivated when I know that my work impacts people’s lives in a meaningful way. I also want an inclusive workplace that supports employees’ personal growth. One that doesn’t see me only as a number.” Sensing a values mismatch in her recent organisations, Cindy chose to leave to find a place she could be empowered to give her best.
Indri knew just the place. She was in talks with a large mining corporation with projects in the West Nusa Tenggara province, and they needed a communications expert who would work closely with company leadership to protect the company’s positive reputation.
Cindy tried out for the role, and with Indri advocating for her, they eased any concerns about job hopping by providing clarity into her motivations. Impressed, the hiring managers promptly offered Cindy a spot on the team.
Today, Cindy’s thriving as she leads up corporate communication strategies out of the company’s Jakarta headquarters, and she credits Indri for leading her to the right place.
“Robert Walters knows that people blossom when placed in a habitat that’s right for them. Indri listened to what I wanted, found it for me, and still checks in consistently on whether I’m happy and if the company is treating me well,” Cindy says. “That kind of genuine concern really adds a human touch to the recruitment process. The job hunt doesn’t have to be so wearying – after meeting Indri, I know that now.”
