Hiring in Technology & Transformation: Guide and Trends in 2025
Hiring market centers on AI, digital transformation and cybersecurity
In 2024, technology continued advancing at breakneck pace, prompting Indonesia’s businesses to respond, invest and tailor their hiring strategies accordingly to stay competitive.
The surge in interest around generative AI has transformed business processes and spurred innovation, enhancing efficiency in areas like customer relationship management. Many businesses ramped up their digital transformation efforts, while others – particularly those in the financial services, digital and technology industries – invested more in cybersecurity to safeguard their data and tech ecosystem.
“The aim for many businesses is to build a workforce that is tech-proficient, savvy with AI, and able to grapple with changes that arise from digital transformation,” relates Rika Tantiana, Senior Manager at Robert Walters Indonesia. “These are the biggest influences on hiring and training today.”
Read on to find out more about Rika’s expectations for Indonesia’s labour market and hiring trends for Tech & Transformation professionals in 2025.
Focus on skills and faster hiring in 2025
In 2025, companies will double down on efforts around generative AI, cybersecurity and digital transformation. Besides these areas, Rika believes that innovation will be a key priority, stating,
Expect to see companies lean more on AI, machine learning and blockchain. These technologies will result in new solutions that help streamline processes, enhance productivity and create value for the business.
Given the huge demand for specific skills, the market is shifting towards a skills-based approach. In 2025, more companies will prioritise candidates with the right skills for the role, even without traditional qualifications. Rika also expects speedier recruitment processes in the year ahead, as companies must act quickly to secure top talent.
Lastly, remote and hybrid work will also continue to dominate the hiring market as candidates still prefer these work models. “Organisations who can offer these arrangements will have an edge in talent attraction and retention,” says Rika.
Most in-demand roles and skills in 2025
Hiring demand for 2025 will correspond to the market’s focus on AI, digital transformation and cybersecurity.
AI and machine learning engineers will be highly sought after for their ability to develop intelligent algorithms and models. There will also be great demand for candidates who can lead digital transformation and change management. Cybersecurity experts are also valued on the market as businesses seek help with protecting their digital systems and maintaining consumer trust.
Besides specific roles, employers will also value candidates who display strong skills in customer-facing domains like business development, networking and customer relationship management (CRM).
Winning talent over with comprehensive benefits
Increasingly, candidates are worried about market volatility, and Rika finds that they are approaching new job opportunities with a more selective eye.
Offering competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits – such as robust medical coverage – and flexible work arrangements can help encourage career moves. Equally important is fostering a strong company culture that inspires trust and engagement. Businesses with a clear, forward-thinking vision for growth stand out to candidates seeking stability and innovation. Highlighting these features can strengthen an organisation’s appeal in recruitment.
Finally, recognition, appreciation and transparency are vital for talent retention. “Regularly celebrate employee contributions through formal or informal recognition programs, and have honest discussions around career progression. All of these boost morale and reinforce a positive work environment.”
Increments for top talent
In 2025, Rika believes that companies will continue to offer salary increments between 20 – 30% for top talent, in line with market rates.
