A fintech organisation in Jakarta is seeking an Engineering Manager to shape the future of payment solutions in Indonesia. Reporting directly to the CEO, this pivotal role offers you the opportunity to drive technology strategy, architecture, and product development across five specialised units. You will be at the heart of a regulated environment, ensuring secure, scalable, and compliant platforms that serve thousands of merchants and connect with major banks. The organisation values integrity, cross-functional collaboration, and a commitment to excellence, providing a supportive leadership structure and flexible working opportunities. If you are passionate about nurturing teams, guiding technological direction without a CTO above you, and making a tangible impact on financial services, this is your chance to join an inclusive workplace where your expertise will be recognised and your growth supported.
- Directly influence the technology roadmap and architecture for a regulated fintech provider serving diverse merchants and banking partners across Indonesia.
- Lead five distinct units—System Development, SysOps, Project Management, Product Management, and Quality Assurance—ensuring seamless collaboration and dependable delivery.
- Enjoy flexible working arrangements, ongoing training opportunities, and supportive leadership that empowers you to grow professionally while maintaining work-life balance.
What you'll do:
As Engineering Manager (Fintech), you will orchestrate the efforts of five specialised units responsible for building secure payment products, cloud platforms, project governance, product management, and independent quality assurance. Your day-to-day will involve setting strategic direction for technology initiatives that underpin the organisation’s core services. You will collaborate closely with business leaders to define product priorities while ensuring every application is designed securely from inception. By recruiting talented professionals into key roles and nurturing their development through succession planning, you will build a dependable team capable of supporting critical systems. You will manage budgets judiciously, oversee vendor relationships thoughtfully, and report regularly on progress and compliance. Through weekly forums with operations management you will align release schedules and risk mitigation strategies. Your responsibilities extend to engineering resilient cloud infrastructure using modern DevOps practices; maintaining rigorous disaster recovery protocols; enforcing secure credential management; documenting architectures comprehensively; integrating seamlessly with banking partners; supporting audits; responding to incidents; approving emergency changes responsibly; overseeing merchant onboarding processes; synchronising sprint capacities; managing project portfolios; and upholding high standards of security compliance. Success in this role means delivering reliable fintech solutions that meet regulatory requirements while fostering a collaborative culture where every team member feels valued.
- Guide five key technology units including System Development, SysOps, Project Management, Product Management, and Quality Assurance by setting goals, developing succession plans for Heads and Section Heads, and fostering communal growth.
- Establish strategic direction for technology architecture aligned with business objectives while defining technical standards collaboratively with operations management.
- Manage budgets, vendor relationships, and technical debt by overseeing replacement of unsupported technologies and reporting progress, risks, and compliance status monthly to executive stakeholders.
- Co-lead weekly technology forums with operations management to align releases, risk mitigation strategies, and priorities; escalate unresolved issues to the CEO as needed.
- Recruit for vacant positions within your remit such as Developer Section Head or Cloud Network Engineer while ensuring critical systems have adequate support coverage.
- Define product direction jointly with business leaders by prioritising roadmaps and ensuring secure application development practices including threat modelling and mandatory code reviews.
- Drive vulnerability remediation programmes in line with board-approved plans while enforcing secure credential management through dedicated key management services.
- Maintain comprehensive inventories of applications, APIs, third-party components along with detailed architectural documentation to ensure transparency and compliance.
- Engineer cloud platforms and networks using infrastructure-as-code principles for all environments while managing database administration and second-line application support.
- Implement robust disaster recovery planning by designing capacity solutions and conducting regular system recovery tests in partnership with operations teams.
What you bring:
Your extensive experience as Engineering Manager (Fintech) equips you with the skills necessary to lead multi-disciplinary teams across system development, cloud operations, project governance, product management, and quality assurance. You bring not only technical expertise but also strong interpersonal skills that foster collaboration among diverse groups. Your background includes direct involvement in regulated financial environments where compliance is paramount—enabling you to navigate complex audit requirements confidently. You are adept at communicating risks transparently to executive stakeholders while balancing speed with caution in product delivery. Your knowledge spans secure coding practices (OWASP), cloud engineering (infrastructure-as-code), disaster recovery planning, API integration standards (SNAP), vulnerability remediation programmes at scale—and you have guided organisations through significant platform changes without disrupting service continuity. Certifications such as CISSP or cloud architect credentials further enhance your credibility. Above all else your integrity shines through as you respect independent security functions even when findings challenge your own team’s comfort zone.
- Mandatory: Hold a bachelor’s degree in information technology or related field with at least ten years’ experience in technology roles including five years leading software engineering or platform infrastructure teams of twenty or more people.
- Mandatory: Demonstrate direct experience within payment service providers, banks, e-money institutions or fintechs regulated by Bank Indonesia or OJK.
- Mandatory: Show proven ability to set technology direction independently without technical superiors above you while being accountable to board-level stakeholders.
- Mandatory: Possess deep understanding of secure development practices (OWASP) coupled with hands-on experience leading large-scale vulnerability remediation initiatives.
- Mandatory: Have built and operated cloud platforms using infrastructure-as-code principles (CI/CD pipelines, containers) including disaster recovery planning.
- Mandatory: Bring experience working in environments subject to PCI DSS and ISO/IEC 27001 standards including third-party audits alongside independent security functions.
- Mandatory: Exhibit sufficient knowledge of product management and project governance to guide both functions effectively within a fintech context.
- Mandatory: Communicate technical risks clearly to senior management even when delivering difficult news.
- Mandatory: Pass background checks and declare conflicts of interest per company policy.
- Preferred: Hold certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CSSLP, CISA or CCSP or possess cloud architect credentials relevant to fintech environments.
- Preferred: Understand SNAP standards for API integration with Indonesian banks (host-to-host) as well as best practices for post-incident architectural improvements.
- Preferred: Demonstrate leadership in cross-functional change management especially during platform transitions involving infrastructure-as-code or production handovers.
