Aquaculture Commercial & Technical Manager (Based in Purworejo)
The role will be responsible for translating innovative research and technical developments into commercially successful solutions for Indonesia’s shrimp farming industry. Working closely with research and technical teams, you will identify market needs, understand the challenges faced by farmers, introduce new disease-prevention solutions, and develop commercial opportunities from initial trials through to long-term customer partnerships.
What you'll do:
Your primary focus will be on understanding the needs of shrimp farmers and converting those needs into commercial opportunities. You will use your industry network and credibility to establish relationships with farm owners, farm managers, operators, and other key decision-makers, creating opportunities to introduce and validate new solutions in real farming environments.
-
Develop and execute commercial and business development strategies for shrimp health and disease-prevention solutions in Indonesia.
-
Build and maintain strong relationships with shrimp farmers, farm owners, farm managers, aquaculture companies, and other key industry stakeholders.
-
Leverage an established network within the Indonesian shrimp farming sector to identify and develop new business opportunities.
-
Open doors for field trials, product validation, demonstrations, and commercial projects with relevant shrimp farms.
-
Work closely with research and technical teams to ensure trials are commercially relevant and aligned with actual farmer needs.
-
Translate research findings, technical results, and field observations into clear commercial value propositions for customers.
-
Identify opportunities to convert successful trials into recurring sales and long-term customer partnerships.
-
Understand farmers' key operational challenges, particularly disease prevention, animal health, water quality, production performance, and financial risk.
-
Provide market intelligence and customer feedback to research, product development, and management teams to help shape future solutions.
-
Monitor market developments, competitor activity, emerging farming practices, and changing customer requirements within the Indonesian aquaculture industry.
-
Develop relationships with major shrimp farming groups and other strategic customers to expand market penetration.
-
Represent the organisation at customer meetings, farm visits, industry events, technical discussions, and other relevant industry forums.
-
Collaborate with local and international colleagues to ensure commercial opportunities are effectively developed and supported.
-
Travel frequently to shrimp farms and customer locations across Indonesia as required.
-
Work closely with the Purworejo research and commercial centre, supporting the connection between research activity and market development.
-
Contribute to building the Indonesian business from an early-stage platform, taking ownership of commercial initiatives and helping establish the organisation's market presence.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate is a highly experienced aquaculture commercial professional with a strong background in shrimp farming and an established reputation within Indonesia's shrimp farming community. You will ideally have progressed from a technical or operational aquaculture background into a senior commercial, sales, or business development position. Experience selling aquaculture products, farm inputs, chemicals, water treatment solutions, animal health products, or other technologies to shrimp farmers would be highly relevant.
-
Extensive experience within the aquaculture industry, with shrimp farming experience strongly preferred.
-
Strong understanding of shrimp-farming operations, including disease prevention, animal health, water quality, production challenges, and farm economics.
-
Proven experience in senior sales, business development, commercial, or market development roles within aquaculture or closely related industries.
-
Established network and direct access to shrimp farmers, farm owners, farm managers, and other key industry stakeholders in Indonesia.
-
Experience selling or commercialising aquaculture inputs, chemicals, water treatment solutions, animal health products, farm technology, or other related solutions is highly advantageous.
-
Demonstrated ability to identify commercial opportunities and convert technical or operational needs into business opportunities.
-
Experience working with field trials, product validation, demonstrations, or technical projects involving customers.
-
Ability to understand and communicate technical and scientific information to commercial customers in a practical and compelling way.
-
Strong market awareness, with the ability to identify changing farmer needs, industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging opportunities.
-
Commercially entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to operate independently and take ownership in a growing business environment.
-
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the credibility and maturity to engage directly with senior farm owners and industry decision-makers.
-
Passionate about aquaculture and motivated to introduce new approaches and solutions to the shrimp farming industry.
-
Comfortable working in a relatively entrepreneurial, start-up-like environment while leveraging the resources of a large international organisation.
-
Fluent in Bahasa Indonesia; good English communication skills are preferred for collaboration with international teams.
-
Willingness to be based in Purworejo, Central Java and travel extensively across Indonesia to visit farms, customers, and industry stakeholders.
