This influential role offers you the chance to oversee all legal matters, ensure robust corporate governance frameworks, and drive compliance with both Indonesian and global standards. You will play a key part in safeguarding the company’s interests, supporting sustainable business practices, and protecting its reputation during critical moments. With direct access to senior management and the ability to influence strategic decisions, this position is ideal for someone who thrives on collaboration, values ethical conduct, and is passionate about making a positive impact across diverse business operations. The organisation is committed to fostering a supportive environment that encourages professional growth, knowledge sharing, and flexible working opportunities.

  • Shape the legal and governance strategy for a major player in Indonesia’s aquaculture sector, ensuring full compliance with national laws while supporting global initiatives.
  • Work closely with executive leadership to provide trusted legal counsel on complex regulatory issues, crisis management, and community partnership programmes.
  • Benefit from a collaborative culture that values integrity, transparency, and continuous learning—offering you the platform to mentor others and grow your own career.

What you'll do:

As Head of Legal and Governance based in Jakarta, you will be entrusted with comprehensive responsibility for all legal affairs within the organisation. Your day-to-day work will involve providing strategic counsel to senior leaders on regulatory risks and opportunities while ensuring that every aspect of business activity aligns with both local regulations and global best practices. You will champion robust corporate governance structures that underpin ethical behaviour at every level of the company. In addition to managing contracts and litigation processes, you will play a vital role in supporting innovative community engagement projects—particularly those involving local farmers—by ensuring their full legal compliance. Your ability to coordinate crisis responses will be essential in protecting stakeholder confidence during challenging times. By nurturing a collaborative team environment and mentoring your direct reports, you will help build a resilient department that supports sustainable growth across all facets of the business.

  • Oversee all aspects of legal management including contract drafting, review, negotiation, litigation strategy, and ensuring alignment with compliance standards across business operations.
  • Provide strategic legal advice to senior management on regulatory changes, commercial transactions, risk mitigation strategies, and emerging business challenges.
  • Lead the development and implementation of corporate governance frameworks that support ethical conduct and transparent decision-making throughout the organisation.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with Indonesian laws by monitoring regulatory developments, maintaining valid permits and licenses, and representing the company before authorities.
  • Support global compliance initiatives by implementing policies, conducting training sessions for staff on legal matters, and collaborating with international teams on cross-border projects.
  • Deliver expert legal guidance for community-based partnerships such as the Contract Farmer initiative—ensuring all agreements meet local requirements and protect both company and partner interests.
  • Manage relationships with external law firms and consultants to guarantee high-quality service delivery while optimising costs through regular performance reviews.
  • Coordinate crisis response plans in collaboration with Corporate Affairs & Sustainability teams to safeguard the company’s reputation during incidents or investigations.
  • Develop departmental budgets for legal and governance activities while overseeing administrative processes to ensure efficient resource allocation.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration by building strong working relationships across departments such as Finance, HR, Procurement, Operations, and Farming.

What you bring:

To excel as Head of Legal and Governance you will bring extensive experience gained from senior positions within reputable organisations where you have overseen complex legal portfolios. Your background should include deep familiarity with Indonesian legislation as well as hands-on involvement in regulatory compliance activities. You are adept at building trust-based relationships both internally—with executives across multiple functions—and externally—with regulators or community partners. Your approach is grounded in empathy; you understand how clear communication can bridge gaps between technical requirements and practical implementation. As someone who values teamwork over hierarchy, your leadership style encourages openness while upholding high ethical standards. Experience guiding teams through periods of change or uncertainty will serve you well here—especially when responding collaboratively during crises or major incidents. If you have supported sustainability efforts or worked alongside farming communities before this will further enhance your contribution.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in law, business or related field coupled with a recognised professional legal qualification or advocate licence.
  • At least 10 years’ experience in legal management roles with proven expertise in Indonesian law and regulatory compliance within multinational or large-scale organisations.
  • Demonstrated success developing effective regulatory strategies that align with evolving business needs while maintaining full adherence to statutory requirements.
  • Experience interacting directly with government agencies, industry associations, customers, partners, and local communities on complex legal matters.
  • Track record of managing corporate litigation including case strategy development, documentation preparation, external counsel coordination, and dispute resolution representation.
  • Strong leadership skills demonstrated through previous team management roles where you fostered ethical conduct and promoted knowledge sharing among colleagues.
  • Excellent communication abilities enabling you to explain complex legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders at all levels of the organisation.
  • High integrity combined with sound judgement when navigating sensitive issues such as crisis management or reputational risk assessment.
  • Experience supporting ESG (Environmental Social Governance), sustainability initiatives or community partnership programmes is highly desirable.
  • Exposure to aquaculture or food manufacturing sectors would be advantageous but not essential.
