What you'll do:

As Country Legal Counsel, you will be entrusted with overseeing all legal aspects of the organisation’s operations in Indonesia. Your daily responsibilities include reviewing contracts, advising on third-party engagements, designing policy frameworks for contract management, and delivering training to enhance organisational awareness of legal processes. You will be expected to provide insightful guidance on complex corporate matters such as M&A transactions while maintaining meticulous documentation for compliance purposes. Success in this role requires you to build strong relationships with stakeholders across departments and geographies, ensuring that your advice is both practical and aligned with business objectives. Your ability to navigate regulatory changes within the mining sector will be crucial as you help steer the company through evolving legal landscapes. By participating in cross-functional meetings, you’ll contribute valuable perspectives that influence key decisions, making your role central to both operational excellence and strategic growth.

  • You will analyse legal risks and opportunities when advising the business on engagement with third parties and managing complex business contracts.
  • You will act as the sole legal counsel, managing all related stakeholders involved in business transactions with careful consideration and reasonable effort.
  • You will design and implement comprehensive guidelines and policies for business contract processes and management to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • You will provide training sessions and raise awareness within the organisation regarding best practices in business contract processes.
  • You will offer timely legal advice and consultation on any matters affecting the business, supporting both day-to-day operations and strategic projects.

  • You will monitor regulatory changes relevant to the mining industry, ensuring the company remains compliant with evolving laws.
  • You will maintain accurate records of all legal documents, contracts, and correspondence for audit purposes.
  • You will participate in cross-functional meetings to provide legal insights that help shape business decisions.

What you bring:

To excel as Country Legal Counsel, you bring substantial experience gained from both corporate settings and private practice environments. Your academic background includes a law degree from a respected institution—ideally complemented by postgraduate qualifications—which underpins your technical proficiency. You have demonstrated capability in managing general corporate affairs as well as complex M&A transactions, giving you confidence when navigating multifaceted deals. Your familiarity with contract law means you can safeguard organisational interests through precise drafting and negotiation. While not mandatory, an interest or previous involvement in the mining sector enhances your ability to anticipate industry-specific challenges. Your agility enables you to handle multiple priorities simultaneously without compromising quality or attention to detail. A collaborative approach helps you build trust among colleagues at all levels—especially when working across borders—and your communication skills make it easy for others to understand your recommendations. Independence is balanced by self-motivation; you thrive when given responsibility but remain committed to communal goals.

  • Law degree from a reputable university is required; a master's degree is highly desirable for advanced understanding of legal principles.
  • 15+ years’ of experience in both in-house roles and private practice demonstrates your depth of expertise across diverse environments.
  • Proven track record in handling general corporate legal matters ensures you can address everyday challenges efficiently.
  • Extensive experience negotiating M&A transactions equips you to manage high-stakes deals with sensitivity to stakeholder needs.
  • Strong command of contract law enables you to draft, review, and manage agreements that protect organisational interests.
  • Interest or prior exposure to the mining industry is considered advantageous for understanding sector-specific regulations.
  • Agility in managing complexity allows you to adapt quickly to changing circumstances while maintaining accuracy.
  • Collaborative mindset fosters positive relationships with colleagues across borders and within internal matrix structures.
  • Excellent communication skills empower you to explain intricate legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently coupled with self-motivation ensures you can deliver results without constant supervision.
