A leading strategic investment firm in Indonesia’s mining sector is seeking an experienced External Affairs to join their team in Aceh. This role offers you the opportunity to play a pivotal part in shaping stakeholder relations, government engagement, and community development initiatives for a major mining operation. Supported by global investors and cross-border partnerships, the organisation is committed to sustainability, long-term value creation, and responsible industry leadership. You will be empowered to build meaningful connections with local communities, drive impactful CSR programmes, and ensure regulatory compliance while contributing to large-scale transactions that shape the future of mining in Indonesia. If you are passionate about fostering positive relationships and sustainable practices within the mining industry, this is your chance to make a significant impact.

  • Join a respected investment firm focused on Indonesia’s mining sector, backed by international partnerships and a commitment to sustainability.
  • Play a key role in managing stakeholder relations, government engagement, and community development programmes for a major mining operation in Aceh.
  • Enjoy opportunities for professional growth as you lead external communications, support conflict resolution, and contribute to responsible industry leadership.

What you'll do:

As an External Affairs based in Aceh, you will be at the heart of the organisation’s mission to create lasting value through responsible mining operations. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve engaging with diverse stakeholders—from government officials to community leaders—to build trustful relationships that underpin successful project execution. You will oversee community development programmes designed to uplift local populations while ensuring all activities comply with relevant laws and regulations. By preparing MoUs and managing agreements, you will facilitate transparent collaboration across multiple sectors. Your expertise in conflict resolution will be crucial when addressing sensitive land issues or mediating disputes. Through your leadership of CSR initiatives, you will help drive sustainable outcomes that benefit both the company and its surrounding communities. Success in this role requires empathy, strong interpersonal skills, and a deep understanding of local cultural sensitivities.

  • Build and nurture collaborative relationships with government agencies, local communities, media representatives, and business partners to foster trust and mutual understanding.
  • Manage comprehensive stakeholder engagement activities and community relations initiatives that support inclusive growth and harmonious partnerships.
  • Identify social, regulatory, and reputational risks proactively while developing strategies to mitigate potential challenges through empathetic communication.
  • Handle legal compliance matters with sensitivity, including land-related issues and stakeholder disputes, ensuring all actions align with company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Prepare, negotiate, and manage Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) as well as other agreements with stakeholders to facilitate transparent cooperation.
  • Lead Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes and community development projects that promote sustainable practices and enhance local wellbeing.
  • Support conflict resolution efforts by mediating between local stakeholders with compassion and respect for cultural dynamics.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with internal policies and external regulations by maintaining accurate records and facilitating open dialogue among all parties involved.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the External Affairs role brings proven experience working within the mining sector on complex stakeholder engagement projects. Your background includes managing public relations campaigns that foster positive perceptions among government agencies and local communities alike. You possess advanced communication skills enabling you to connect empathetically with people from varied backgrounds while negotiating agreements that serve communal interests. Your familiarity with legal compliance processes ensures smooth handling of land-related issues without compromising regulatory standards. Experience leading CSR initiatives demonstrates your commitment to sustainable development goals. Additionally, your knowledge of environmental standards such as AMDAL—and social responsibility frameworks like ISO 26000—positions you as a trusted advisor on best practices. Training in mediation or conflict management further enhances your ability to resolve disputes amicably. Above all else, your sensitivity to local culture makes you an invaluable asset when navigating complex social landscapes.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, International Relations, Sociology, Public Relations, Law or related field is required for this position.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in External Affairs, Public Relations, Government Relations or Corporate Communications within the mining industry is essential.
  • Exceptional communication skills—both spoken and written English—are necessary for effective stakeholder management.
  • Proven ability to handle land issues sensitively alongside legal compliance matters within complex regulatory environments.
  • Experience designing and implementing community development programmes that reflect cultural awareness and inclusivity.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills coupled with a talent for building consensus among diverse groups.
  • Good understanding of local community dynamics in Aceh Province as well as broader cultural sensitivities relevant to mining operations.
  • Certification in Public Relations or Corporate Secretary roles is highly desirable for candidates seeking additional credibility.
  • Training or certification in Conflict Management, Mediation or Negotiation would be advantageous for supporting dispute resolution efforts.
  • Knowledge of AMDAL environmental standards and ISO 26000 social responsibility guidelines is preferred.
