This newly created position offers you the opportunity to be at the forefront of government engagement, policy advocacy, and regulatory affairs for a business that is deeply invested in the region’s agricultural and manufacturing sectors. You will be based in Jakarta’s prestigious location, working closely with senior leaders across Asia and the United States. The role is designed for an individual contributor who thrives on building meaningful relationships with key ministries, navigating complex licensing challenges, and ensuring seamless importation of raw materials for local factories. If you are passionate about making a tangible impact through effective communication, stakeholder management, and strategic problem-solving, this is your chance to join an organisation that values your expertise and offers significant growth opportunities.

  • Newly established leadership position focused on government relations and policy advocacy across Indonesia and Singapore, offering you the chance to shape strategy from the ground up while being based in Jakarta.
  • Direct access to senior decision-makers both locally and internationally, allowing you to influence high-level outcomes and collaborate with knowledgeable peers in agriculture services and nutrition.
  • Opportunity to build trusted networks with ministries, industry associations such as AMCHAM and EUROCHAM, and other influential stakeholders, all within a supportive environment that values your interpersonal skills and commitment to excellence.

What you'll do:

As Director Policy and Government Relations, you will be entrusted with driving strategic engagement initiatives across Indonesia’s complex regulatory landscape. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve building trusted partnerships with government officials at various levels, advocating for policies that enable efficient factory operations, and ensuring all necessary licenses are secured without delay. You will work independently but collaboratively alongside experienced colleagues in agriculture services and nutrition—sharing knowledge, anticipating regulatory shifts, and responding swiftly to any challenges that arise. Your ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders will be essential as you represent the organisation at industry events while keeping senior leaders informed of critical developments. Success in this role means not only safeguarding business interests but also fostering an environment where open dialogue leads to sustainable growth.

  • Develop and implement comprehensive government relations strategies that support business objectives in Indonesia and Singapore, ensuring alignment with local regulations and international best practices.
  • Establish and nurture collaborative relationships with key government bodies including the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Trade, People’s Representatives, and relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the organisation and governmental agencies to facilitate smooth importation of raw materials for factory operations.
  • Anticipate regulatory changes by maintaining close connections with policymakers, proactively addressing potential challenges related to licensing, product registration, production permits, and compliance requirements.
  • Represent the company at industry forums such as AMCHAM and EUROCHAM to advocate for favourable policies while sharing insights on market trends affecting manufacturing and trade.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders including peers in agriculture services and nutrition to ensure cohesive policy positions that reflect operational realities.
  • Provide timely advice to senior management on emerging legislative or regulatory issues that could impact business continuity or expansion plans.
  • Lead crisis response efforts related to government relations by quickly resolving licensing bottlenecks or regulatory hurdles affecting plant operations.
  • Support cross-functional teams during audits or inspections by preparing documentation required for compliance with local laws.
  • Monitor developments in regional trade agreements or bilateral negotiations that may influence import-export activities.

What you bring:

To excel as Director Policy and Government Relations, your background should include substantial exposure to Indonesia’s regulatory environment—particularly within manufacturing or agriculture. Your proven experience managing sensitive government interactions will allow you to anticipate challenges before they escalate. You bring not only technical knowledge but also empathy for stakeholder concerns; your interpersonal approach ensures productive conversations even under pressure. Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia enables you to connect authentically with local officials while your command of English supports clear communication at regional meetings. Your understanding of cross-border trade dynamics complements your hands-on familiarity with plant operations—making you a valued advisor during audits or crisis situations. Above all, your commitment to ethical conduct sets a positive example for colleagues throughout the organisation.

  • Extensive experience managing government relations or public affairs within Indonesia’s manufacturing or agricultural sectors is highly desirable for this position.
  • Proven track record of building dependable networks with key ministries such as Agriculture and Trade as well as industry associations like AMCHAM or EUROCHAM.
  • Exceptional communication skills in both Bahasa Indonesia and English are required so you can engage confidently with local stakeholders as well as international executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate regulatory changes by staying attuned to legislative developments impacting import licensing, product registration, or factory compliance.
  • Experience handling complex problem-solving scenarios involving plant operations or supply chain disruptions is essential for success in this role.
  • Familiarity with cross-border trade regulations affecting imported raw materials will help you navigate intricate approval processes efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are needed so you can foster trust-based relationships across diverse teams while representing organisational interests externally.
  • Ability to work independently as an individual contributor while collaborating closely with peers in related functions such as agriculture services or nutrition.
  • A background in policy advocacy or public administration would be advantageous when engaging with high-level government representatives.
