This pivotal role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact by fostering positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders, while also leading a dedicated team on site. With a unique roster that allows for both on-site engagement and time in Jakarta, you will enjoy a balanced work-life rhythm. The organisation is committed to supporting your professional growth, offering a collaborative environment where your communication skills and legal acumen can truly shine. If you are passionate about building connections, nurturing teams, and driving community-focused initiatives, this is the perfect role for you.

  • Play a key role in shaping stakeholder relations and community development strategies within a supportive and inclusive team environment, ensuring that all voices are heard and respected.
  • Benefit from a flexible working arrangement with a 4-week on-site rotation followed by 2 weeks in Jakarta, allowing you to maintain strong ties with both the local community and central operations.
  • Lead and mentor a team of 15 professionals, fostering collaboration and personal growth while reporting directly to the Legal Director and contributing to the organisation’s long-term success.

What you'll do:

As Deputy Director of External Affairs, you will play an instrumental role in strengthening relationships between the organisation and its surrounding communities. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve engaging directly with local stakeholders, developing impactful community initiatives, and ensuring that all communications reflect the organisation’s commitment to inclusivity and respect. You will guide your team through various projects designed to uplift the community while maintaining close coordination with senior leadership. Success in this position requires not only excellent interpersonal skills but also the ability to navigate complex social dynamics with care. By championing open communication channels and fostering an environment where every voice matters, you will help create lasting positive change both within the organisation and beyond.

  • Oversee all aspects of external affairs at the Sulawesi site, ensuring effective communication and positive engagement with local communities and stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive community development programmes that align with organisational values and support sustainable growth.
  • Act as the primary liaison between the organisation and local residents, government officials, and other key partners to build trust and mutual understanding.
  • Lead, mentor, and support a diverse team of 15 staff members, promoting an atmosphere of cooperation, empathy, and shared purpose.
  • Coordinate closely with the Legal Director to ensure compliance with relevant regulations while advancing stakeholder interests.
  • Facilitate open dialogue sessions with community representatives to address concerns, share updates, and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare detailed reports on stakeholder engagement activities for senior management review, highlighting successes and areas for further attention.
  • Manage complex situations on site with sensitivity and professionalism, ensuring that all parties feel heard and respected throughout any negotiations or discussions.
  • Champion best practices in communication across all levels of the organisation to enhance transparency and foster positive relationships.
  • Support crisis management efforts by providing clear information to stakeholders during challenging situations.

What you bring:

To excel as Deputy Director of External Affairs, you will bring substantial experience in managing stakeholder relationships within complex environments. Your background may include roles focused on community outreach or public affairs where you have demonstrated an ability to connect authentically with people from varied backgrounds. Your leadership style should emphasise empathy, encouragement, and collaboration—qualities that inspire those around you to work together towards common objectives. Familiarity with legal processes or regulatory compliance will enable you to navigate challenges confidently while upholding ethical standards. Your capacity for clear communication will allow you to bridge gaps between different groups effectively. Above all else, your dedication to fostering positive change through respectful engagement sets you apart as an ideal candidate for this influential role.

  • Demonstrated experience in external affairs or stakeholder relations within a large-scale or site-based environment is essential for this position.
  • A proven track record in leading community development initiatives that have delivered tangible benefits for local populations is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication skills—both written and verbal—are required to effectively liaise with diverse groups including local residents, government officials, and internal teams.
  • Experience managing teams of 10 or more people is important for successfully guiding your subordinates towards shared goals.
  • A legal background or familiarity with regulatory frameworks related to external affairs would be advantageous for navigating compliance requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities combined with emotional intelligence are necessary for handling sensitive issues diplomatically.
  • The ability to thrive in physically demanding environments is important given the nature of on-site responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed reports for senior management ensures transparency in all stakeholder engagement activities.
  • A collaborative mindset that values teamwork, empathy, and mutual support is crucial for building trust both internally and externally.
