What you'll do:
As Head of Engineering you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technological vision of one of Indonesia’s most influential digital platforms. Your day-to-day will involve nurturing talent across multiple teams—guiding them through complex architectural decisions while ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed. - Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to multiple engineering teams through senior managers and principal engineers, ensuring their ongoing development and well-being.
- Define and execute engineering strategies that align with broader technology and business objectives, setting clear goals for delivery and operational excellence.
- Partner closely with product management, design, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable technical roadmaps and execution plans.
- Drive organisational planning including headcount allocation, resource management, and team structure optimisation to maximise delivery capacity.
- Champion best practices in software development such as coding standards, code reviews, testing protocols, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, observability, and site reliability engineering.
- Foster a positive team culture rooted in ownership, innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement through effective coaching and recognition.
- Establish metrics and KPIs to measure team health, delivery velocity, code quality, system reliability, and overall productivity.
- Balance technical debt management with feature delivery by making thoughtful trade-off decisions that benefit both short-term outcomes and long-term sustainability.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration by acting as a liaison between engineering and other departments to ensure alignment on project status, milestones, challenges, and successes.
- Continuously improve engineering processes by identifying opportunities for efficiency gains in workflows while supporting an agile methodology.

- A minimum of 12 years’ experience in professional software engineering roles with proven expertise in building large-scale distributed systems within e-commerce or similar industries.
- At least 3 years’ experience managing people leaders or high-performing engineering teams with a focus on career development and team cohesion.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related discipline demonstrating strong academic foundations in object-oriented programming principles.
- Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals including concurrency models, data structures, algorithms, system design patterns, backend technologies (Java/Scala/Kotlin), RESTful APIs (REST/GraphQL), microservices architecture, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), databases (SQL/NoSQL), message queues (Kafka/RabbitMQ), containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), monitoring tools (New Relic/PagerDuty), CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience implementing modern software development practices such as agile methodologies (sprint planning/iterative delivery frameworks), infrastructure as code (Terraform/CloudFormation), observability/SRE principles.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly at all levels—from hands-on engineers up to executive leadership—while facilitating architectural discussions/decisions.
- Track record of driving organisational change through process improvements that enhance productivity without sacrificing quality or team morale.
- Demonstrated empathy for others combined with excellent interpersonal skills; able to foster trust-based relationships within multicultural/global teams.
