Sales Manager (Paint)

Save job

A leading multinational company specialising in surface finishing technology is seeking a Sales Manager to spearhead its expansion in Indonesia. This is a unique opportunity for you to become one of the first local hires, playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of the business in Jakarta and beyond.

What you'll do:

As Sales Manager – Paint Industry, you will play a central role in establishing direct connections with end customers across multiple sectors such as automotive, appliances, heavy equipment, motorcycles, wrapping systems, and power transformers. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve developing strategic plans for direct selling through regional entities without opening new offices or entities locally. You will work hand-in-hand with the sole distributor to ensure optimal market reach while retaining control over customer interactions. Prospecting new business opportunities will be key as you build a robust pipeline for high-value industrial solutions. Managing long lead-time sales cycles requires patience and persistence; your ability to nurture relationships will be crucial. Collaboration with regional colleagues will help you stay informed about best practices and industry developments. You will also support the introduction of turnkey system-integrator solutions by engaging customers in technical discussions and crafting bespoke proposals. Regular reporting to senior management ensures transparency and alignment with organisational goals. Training opportunities are available to further develop your skills. Success in this role hinges on your capacity for relationship-building, adaptability in navigating complex sales environments, and willingness to share knowledge within a supportive team.

  • Develop and execute strategies for direct selling to end users within Indonesia using regional entities, focusing on building lasting relationships and trust.
  • Work closely with the existing sole distributor to maximise market coverage while maintaining control over sales processes and customer engagement.
  • Identify and prospect new business opportunities across automotive, appliances, agriculture equipment, motorcycles, wrapping systems, and power transformers sectors.
  • Manage complex industrial sales cycles involving high-cost solutions with extended lead times, ensuring consistent pipeline development and follow-up.
  • Collaborate with regional teams based in Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines to share insights and align on best practices for market penetration.
  • Support the launch of turnkey system-integrator solutions by discussing technical requirements and delivering tailored proposals to prospective clients.
  • Build deep market understanding by researching industry trends, competitor activities, and customer needs within powder coating systems (priority) and liquid coating (secondary).
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on sales progress, challenges encountered, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate actively in training sessions offered by the company to enhance product knowledge and sales techniques.
  • Contribute positively to a supportive team environment by sharing information, offering assistance to colleagues, and fostering inclusive communication.

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for Sales Manager – Paint Industry brings proven experience from the paint sector or related industries such as powder suppliers or coating system integrators. Your familiarity with industrial sales cycles involving high-value solutions equips you for success in managing complex negotiations that require patience and empathy. Relationship-building is at the heart of this role; your ability to connect warmly with end users across automotive, appliances, agriculture equipment, motorcycles, wrapping systems, and power transformers sets you apart. Operating dependably as one of the first local hires means balancing autonomy with collaboration—your openness towards learning new products or methods ensures ongoing growth. Technical expertise in powder coating systems (priority) alongside liquid coatings enables you to engage confidently in solution discussions.

  • Experience in paint industry sales or related fields such as powder coating suppliers or coating system integrators is highly desirable.
  • Proven track record of managing industrial sales cycles involving high-value solutions with extended lead times.
  • Strong relationship-building skills that enable you to connect effectively with end users across diverse sectors including automotive, appliances, agriculture equipment, motorcycles, wrapping systems, and power transformers.
  • Ability to operate dependably as part of a small team launching operations locally; comfort working autonomously while remaining connected with regional colleagues.
  • Deep understanding of powder coating systems (priority) as well as liquid coating technologies (secondary), enabling you to discuss technical requirements confidently with customers.
  • Open-mindedness combined with a supportive attitude towards learning new products or approaches; willingness to participate actively in training sessions provided by the company.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills that foster trust among clients and colleagues alike; sensitivity towards cultural differences when engaging stakeholders across Southeast Asia.
  • Ability to provide honest feedback during reporting processes; commitment to transparent communication with management regarding progress or challenges encountered.
  • Enthusiasm for contributing positively within an inclusive team environment where knowledge sharing is encouraged.
