Our client is seeking a dynamic, results-driven Head of Sales with a winning mindset and a strong desire to succeed. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the publishing landscape, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.

What you'll do:

As the Head of Sales, your primary role will be to lead a small yet dedicated team towards achieving or exceeding set revenue targets. You will be responsible for developing innovative sales strategies based on market trends and customer needs. Your leadership skills will be crucial in coaching your team towards success. Building strong relationships with key clients will also be part of your daily tasks. You will negotiate contracts to ensure maximum profitability while identifying opportunities for upselling. Monitoring sales targets for your team members will also fall under your purview.

  • Develop and implement sales strategies to achieve revenue and market share goals
  • Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities to identify new business opportunities
  • Collaborate with marketing, editorial, and product teams to align sales strategies with overall business objectives
  • Lead, coach, and manage a team of sales representatives, setting clear performance expectations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, including retailers, libraries, academic institutions, and other industry stakeholders
  • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms with clients to maximize profitability
  • Identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling across our catalog of publications and digital offerings
  • Set and monitor sales targets for individual team members and the department as a whole

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Head of Sales position brings along a wealth of experience in the publishing industry. With at least 5-8 years under their belt working with channel partners or similar roles in higher education or related fields. They possess strong leadership skills, capable of motivating and managing a high-performing sales team. Their excellent communication and negotiation skills enable them to build strong relationships and conduct high-level sales meetings. They have an in-depth knowledge of the publishing industry, including both print and digital formats. Experience with SalesForce and Tableau would be a key advantage.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • 5-8 years experience with a successful track record in working with channel partners, bookstores, sales or related customer-facing roles in higher education or a related field.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a high-performing sales team.
  • Experience interfacing with executive management; ability to conduct high-level sales meetings.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the publishing industry, including both print and digital formats.
  • High level of experience in solution selling and digital products.
  • Experience with SalesForce and Tableau would be a key advantage.
