Procurement Manager Export Import Salary: Competitive and based on experience Location: Makassar A major international food and manufacturing group is seeking a highly experienced Procurement Manager Export Import to lead a newly established, mission-critical function at their processing facility in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

This senior leadership opportunity offers you the chance to shape both technical procurement and global trade operations for a site producing over 2,000 tons of finished goods each month. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, your expertise will be pivotal in managing non-raw material supply chains and ensuring seamless export-import processes. The organisation is committed to supporting your transition with a comprehensive relocation package, including housing, paid home leave, and transportation benefits. If you are ready for a defining career move that combines strategic influence with operational excellence in one of Indonesia’s key economic centres, this is the perfect next step.

  • This is a senior leadership position with direct reporting to the Executive Director and a clear path to Head of Function responsibilities, offering significant scope for professional growth and impact within the organisation.
  • You will be responsible for leading all aspects of indirect procurement (CAPEX, OPEX, MRO, services) as well as overseeing international logistics and trade compliance for a high-volume manufacturing operation.
  • The company provides an extensive relocation package including city housing, paid flights for home leave, car and communications support, ensuring your move to Makassar is fully supported and comfortable.

What you'll do:

As Procurement Manager Export Import, you will play a central role in shaping both the technical procurement strategy and international logistics framework for a major food processing facility. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve leading high-value sourcing projects for plant equipment and services while collaborating with engineering teams to ensure optimal outcomes. You will also oversee all aspects of export-import operations from customs clearance through delivery of finished goods worldwide. Success in this role requires exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail in compliance matters, and the ability to build collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders as well as external partners such as suppliers and freight forwarders. Your contribution will be vital in maintaining operational continuity while driving cost efficiencies across the supply chain.

  • Lead the end-to-end sourcing, tendering, and contract negotiation process for all indirect procurement categories including CAPEX investments, operational expenditures, maintenance repair operations, and essential services required by the manufacturing plant.
  • Manage complex procurement projects involving acquisition, installation, and ongoing maintenance of specialised processing machinery and technical equipment critical to production efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with technical and engineering teams to ensure all equipment specifications are met while driving cost optimisation initiatives across procurement activities.
  • Oversee the entire export-import process for materials and finished goods, ensuring timely customs clearance and adherence to regulatory requirements for international shipments.
  • Serve as the primary authority on trade compliance matters, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations to guarantee smooth cross-border transactions.
  • Directly manage logistics staff and foster strong working relationships with customs authorities as well as international freight forwarders to facilitate efficient movement of goods.
  • Develop robust supplier networks both locally and internationally to secure best-in-class products and services at competitive terms.
  • Implement risk management strategies within procurement and logistics functions to mitigate potential disruptions in supply chain operations.
  • Monitor market trends and emerging technologies in food manufacturing equipment to inform future capital investment decisions.
  • Prepare detailed reports on procurement performance metrics and present actionable insights to senior management for continuous improvement.

What you bring:

To excel as Procurement Manager Export Import you will bring substantial experience gained from senior roles within large-scale food manufacturing or heavy industry environments. Your background should include hands-on involvement in both technical procurement—particularly CAPEX projects—and international logistics management. A deep understanding of trade compliance issues combined with strong relationship-building skills will enable you to navigate complex regulatory landscapes while maintaining efficient supply chains. Your ability to work collaboratively across departments ensures alignment between procurement objectives and operational requirements. An engineering education further enhances your suitability by equipping you with technical insight into machinery acquisitions. Relocating to Makassar demonstrates your commitment not only to personal growth but also to supporting the strategic ambitions of this thriving organisation.

  • Minimum ten years of professional experience in procurement or supply chain management roles within large-scale manufacturing environments.
  • At least three years’ proven track record in managerial positions combining responsibilities in both procurement (especially non-raw material/CAPEX) and export-import/logistics functions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sourcing plant equipment, machinery acquisitions, service contracts, and managing complex capital expenditure projects within industrial settings.
  • Comprehensive understanding of customs clearance procedures, trade compliance regulations, and international shipping documentation requirements.
  • Experience building effective supplier networks locally and globally while negotiating favourable terms for high-value purchases.
  • Ability to collaborate productively with technical teams including engineers to align procurement activities with operational needs.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating market trends, supplier performance data, and identifying opportunities for cost savings or process improvements.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication abilities enabling you to manage logistics staff effectively while fostering positive relationships with customs officials and freight partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; engineering background is highly advantageous given the technical nature of plant equipment sourcing.
  • Willingness to relocate permanently to Makassar, South Sulawesi as part of a long-term commitment to the organisation’s growth.
