A prominent organization in Jakarta is seeking a Legal Manager (Real Estate) to play a critical role in maintaining compliance and legal integrity. As Legal Manager, you will act as an individual contributor, reporting directly to an expatriate based abroad. You will collaborate with various teams across the organization, identify legal risks, engage with regulatory bodies, and ensure compliance principles are effectively integrated into the company’s operations.
What you'll do:
As Legal Manager, you will be entrusted with a broad remit that spans monitoring legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions, collaborating on risk assessments with cross-functional teams, developing forward-thinking internal policies, managing regulatory relationships, leading thorough audits or investigations when necessary, and nurturing an environment where ethical conduct is second nature. Your day-to-day responsibilities will see you engaging directly with regulators during inspections or inquiries; working hand-in-hand with HR on sensitive investigations; providing guidance on new legislative developments; driving awareness campaigns around ethics; supporting onboarding processes; recommending improvements based on audit findings; and ensuring that every aspect of your work contributes towards building a transparent, accountable workplace. Success in this role will require not only technical expertise but also empathy, discretion, strong interpersonal skills, and a genuine commitment to fostering trust at every level of the organisation.
- Monitor compliance with national and international laws relevant to the organisation’s operations, ensuring all activities align with current legal requirements.
- Manage contract lifecycle processes, including drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and finalising agreements to ensure alignment with legal requirements and organisational objectives.
- Identify, assess, and escalate significant legal risks in partnership with the Legal team to proactively address potential challenges before they arise.
- Support the creation, review, and implementation of internal policies that reflect evolving legal standards and best practices within the industry.
- Coordinate timely responses to regulatory inquiries, audits, or enforcement actions by preparing comprehensive documentation and briefings for inspections or investigations.
- Act as a primary liaison with regulators and enforcement agencies alongside Legal colleagues, maintaining open channels of communication for effective engagement.
- Track regulatory developments at both local and global levels to assess their potential impact on business operations and advise stakeholders accordingly.
- Lead or assist in conducting internal audits and investigations into compliance breaches or misconduct, applying structured methodologies for fact-finding and resolution.
- Collaborate closely with HR to ensure that all investigations are managed ethically, legally soundly, and consistent with company values.
- Recommend corrective actions following investigations and monitor their implementation to ensure continuous improvement in compliance processes.
- Promote ethical behaviour throughout the organisation by supporting ethics-related campaigns, reporting mechanisms, onboarding programmes, training sessions, and leadership development initiatives.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Legal Manager position will bring substantial experience from previous roles focused on legal management or corporate compliance within large-scale organisations. Your background should demonstrate not only technical proficiency in interpreting complex legislation but also an ability to communicate clearly across departments—especially when collaborating on risk assessments or policy development. You will have shown sensitivity when handling confidential matters during audits or investigations while always prioritising ethical considerations. Your interpersonal strengths will shine through your ability to build trust-based relationships both internally (with HR/Legal) and externally (with regulators). A proactive approach towards keeping abreast of regulatory changes is essential as is your enthusiasm for sharing knowledge via training sessions or awareness campaigns. Above all else, your commitment to nurturing an inclusive culture grounded in transparency will set you apart as someone who truly understands what it means to support organisational integrity.
- Demonstrated experience in legal management or compliance roles within complex organisations where you have monitored adherence to national and international regulations.
- Proven ability to identify major legal risks collaboratively with other departments such as Legal or HR while maintaining clear communication channels.
- Strong track record in developing or implementing internal policies aligned with current legal requirements across diverse operational areas.
- Experience coordinating responses to regulatory inquiries or enforcement actions including preparation of detailed documentation for inspections or investigations.
- Excellent relationship-building skills enabling you to act as an effective liaison between the organisation and external regulators or enforcement agencies.
- Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments affecting business operations locally or internationally coupled with analytical skills for impact assessment.
- Hands-on experience leading or supporting internal audits or investigations into compliance breaches using structured approaches for fact-finding and resolution.
- Ability to collaborate empathetically with HR teams ensuring all investigative processes are handled ethically according to company values.
- Capacity to recommend practical corrective actions post-investigation while monitoring follow-up implementation for continuous process improvement.
